Lee Carlson, born Leona Jane Klinck

My mother Lee Carlson, born Leona Jane Klink, 96, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died peacefully at home on August 23, 2020, surround by loved ones.  She was born March 29, 1924 in Mason City, Iowa.

Lee moved with her family to Los Angeles when she was young. She remained there through her childhood and graduated from Hamilton High School, class of 1942. There, she met her husband to be, Lorne Carl Carlson. She then attended University of California at Santa Barbara and, following the war in 1947, she was married to her high school sweetheart back in Los Angeles.

Together, they raised their three children in Santa Maria and Santa Barbara. Lee worked for decades as a very successful escrow officer and her reputation as one of the top officers of that area lives on to this day.

Upon retirement, she moved to Santa Monica to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them, teaching them to sew, paying them to mow her lawn, and sharing treats from her gum drop tree.

Throughout her life, she was an avid stitcher, gardener and cook. To this day, her three daughters continue her legacy with these hobbies she taught them to love. Later in life she could be found watching the Hallmark channel with her latest project in her hands.

She was an active member of many needlework guilds and clubs. She also enjoyed reading mystery novels and westerns and was a member of her church book club.

Lee was predeceased by her husband, Lorne Carlson in 1982, and her parents, Hoyt and Faye Klinck, her brother Harrison Klinck and her sister Donna Fisher. She is survived by her three daughters; Lori Zamel, spouse Mark Zamel, Leslee Matthews and Lisa Curran, spouse Anthony Curran, her 12 grandchildren, Sara Taverne, spouse Daniel Taverne, Tate, Marlow, Shaylee and Kai Curran, Ethan, Hannah, Caris, Abby and Caleb Matthews and Brandon Zamel, spouse Swea Zamel and Kendra Wilson, spouse Derek Wilson as well as four great grandchildren; Ben and Max Zamel and Roland and Honey Wilson
